Keith Allen is a Research Scholar at the Institute for Contemporary History (Institut für Zeitgeschichte) in Berlin. He holds a Ph.D. in History from Carnegie Mellon University's Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences (1997). His work focuses on Cold War-era European history, particularly migrant security policies and state privatization after the fall of the Berlin Wall. He has conducted extensive research using declassified archives from multiple countries, culminating in his 2017 book Interrogation Nation, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Allen also teaches a history course for Dartmouth College’s Foreign Studies Program in Berlin. His career includes roles at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and an international commission investigating Switzerland’s Nazi-era ties, as well as curating pan-European exhibitions on WWII legacies.
