Professor Kei Cho is a Professor of Neuroscience at King's College London, affiliated with the Department of Basic & Clinical Neuroscience within the School of Neuroscience at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN). His research focuses on understanding the pathophysiology of Alzheimer’s disease, particularly synaptic weakening mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets. He employs advanced techniques including gene-transcription regulation analysis, neurophysiological methods, and imaging tools.
Key collaborations include partnerships with Prof David Klenerman (Cambridge), Prof Chris Shaw, Dr Sarah Mizielinska, and Dr Mathew Horocks. Notable professional activities include organizing the UK-Korea Bio-Technology Forum (2022) and hosting visits from the Republic of Korea Ambassador to discuss international collaborations. His work is part of the UK Dementia Research Initiative (UK DRI) at King’s College London.
Research interests span synaptic plasticity, neuroinflammation, and molecular pathways underlying neurodegenerative disorders. Recent publications (2010–2020) explore amyloid beta’s role in LTP deficits, tau phosphorylation effects on synaptic function, and signaling pathways modulating synaptic strength. These studies contribute to understanding early-stage dementia mechanisms and therapeutic interventions.
