Dr. Keelan Harkin is an Assistant Professor at the School of Irish Studies, Concordia University. He holds a PhD in English Literature from McGill University and an MA from McMaster University. His research focuses on intersections of literature, law, and state formation in Ireland, particularly through the lens of 1930s Irish novelists navigating political uncertainty. He teaches courses on Irish literature, narrative theory, and law in literature. His work emphasizes marginalized voices and transnational writing. Harkin supervises MA/PhD students in Irish literature from the 19th to 21st centuries, prioritizing topics in legal, feminist, and modernity theories.
His recent research explores how Irish novelists imagined futures for the Irish Free State during the 1930s, contrasting with contemporaneous British/European anxieties. Harkin has organized academic conferences like the 2020 Concordia Graduate Conference in Irish Studies and contributed to peer-reviewed journals such as Textual Practice and Irish University Review. He is available for consultation Tuesdays–Thursdays, 11am–1pm.
