Kazasis Fotis

Kazasis Fotis is a Researcher at the Technical University of Crete, affiliated with the School of Electronic & Computer Engineering and the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering. He has been a member of the Academic Council since October 2020 and contributes to the Distributed Information Systems and Applications Laboratory (MUSIC).

His research interests include Multimedia Information Systems, Database Technologies, Office Automation, and Information Retrieval Systems, with a focus on Informatics and distributed systems. His publications (1995–2011) highlight work on service-oriented architectures (e.g., TV-Anytime metadata handling), mobile computing (TV-Anytime information management), ontologies (semantic indexing for multimedia), and peer-to-peer/SOA infrastructures for knowledge management. Recent articles (2011) address event visualization on Google Earth, while earlier works (2003–2007) tackle semantic query languages and intelligent tourism applications.

He has coordinated research programs funded by the European Union and Greece since 1990, emphasizing practical implementations in digital ecosystems and TV services. His teaching includes Introduction to Computers and Informatics and Databases at TUC.
