Kayley Birch-Hurst

Kayley Birch-Hurst is an Associate Lecturer and Post Graduate Researcher at the University of the West of England (UWE), affiliated with the Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences (HAS). She holds a BSc in Psychology from Cardiff University (2019) and is currently completing a PhD through the ESRC South West Doctoral Training Partnership, focusing on visual search mechanisms in radiologists using eye-tracking technology. Her roles include teaching the 'Developing Self and Society' module and supervising students at level 2.

Her research interests span cognitive neuroscience, visual perception, and perceptual learning, with a specific emphasis on the cognitive and neural underpinnings of visual search. Her PhD project investigates radiological error mitigation through improved training interventions for professionals and machines.

Key areas of expertise include sensorimotor simulation, effects of expertise on visual cognition, and the application of eye-tracking in understanding cognitive processes. Recent work explores reliability in experimental tasks measuring social cognition and visual search performance.

Her research has been presented at conferences such as the European Conference on Visual Perception and the Vision Sciences Society. She has also contributed to peer-reviewed journals in vision science and cognitive neuroscience.
