Dr. Kay L. Retzlaff is a Professor of English at the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA), where she has taught since 1994. She specializes in literature, writing, and women’s studies, offering courses such as Introduction to Mythology, Irish-American Literature, and American Literature. Her research focuses on Irish mythology, 18th- and 19th-century American writers, and women’s roles in mythology and religion.
Education: B.A., M.A. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and a Ph.D. from the University of Maine. She has also studied Old Irish at the National University of Ireland-Galway (2011) and taught at Chonnam National University in South Korea (2015).
Publications include Redefining Irishness in a Coastal Maine City, 1770-1870: Bridget’s Belfast (2022), articles in Maine History and Ulidia, and poetry collaborations. She volunteers with Penobscot Valley Senior College and has edited works like Vietnam Memories: A Cookbook.
