Katy Tant

Dr Katy Tant is a Senior Lecturer in AI for Engineering at the James Watt School of Engineering, University of Glasgow, and an Honorary Lecturer at the School of Engineering, University of Strathclyde. She bridges applied mathematics, engineering, and industry to advance ultrasonic imaging and inverse problems.

Her research focuses on wave modelling in complex media, ultrasonics, and inverse problems, with applications in non-destructive evaluation, medical imaging, and seismology. She integrates machine learning and data science into ultrasonic tomography and haptics optimization, contributing to industrial and environmental challenges.

Dr Tant supervises PhD students including Douglas, Leah (Nanobubbles for Pancreatic Cancer Detection) and McKenna, Jason (Ultrasound Sensor Optimization). She co-led the IEEE UK & Ireland Chapter in Ultrasonics and chairs its Frequency Control division, while advocating for equity, diversity, and inclusion across Glasgow and Strathclyde universities.
