About
Dr. Katrin Schilcher is a Lecturer in Microbial Molecular Biology at the University of Leicester's Department of Genetics and Genome Biology. Her research addresses the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance by investigating bacterial interactions and signaling mechanisms in polymicrobial infections.
Research focuses on Staphylococcus aureus lipoproteins and derived linear peptides, examining their roles in horizontal gene transfer, bacterial communication, and virulence regulation. Her lab studies how bacterial networks control lipoprotein expression and how interspecies interactions influence antibiotic resistance transmission.
Current investigations aim to decipher gene expression changes during polymicrobial infections and identify determinants of bacterial competition/coexistence. This work combines molecular microbiology, transcriptomics, and infection models to understand resistance dynamics at molecular levels.
