About
Dr. Katrin Pollmann serves as Head and Team Leader of the Biotechnology group at the Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology within the Helmholtz Center Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR). Her work focuses on developing biotechnological solutions for sustainable resource extraction and processing in the mining and recycling sectors.
Her research spans Biotechnology, Resource Technology, and Environmental Biotechnology, with specialization in Microbial Metallurgy and Biohydrometallurgy. She leads investigations into microbial metal extraction (bioleaching), treatment of mining waste, and bioremediation of contaminated sites using tailored microbial communities. Her work addresses critical challenges in raw material supply chains through eco-friendly biological processes.
As head of the Biotechnology laboratory at HZDR's Dresden campus (Bautzner Landstraße 400, Building 801/P308), she directs research on microbial interactions with mineral substrates and develops biotechnological approaches for circular economy applications. Her group's work supports HZDR's strategic mission in sustainable resource management and environmental protection.
