Katrin Köppert is Professor for Transformations of Audiovisual Media with focus on Gender and Queer Theory at Ruhr-Universität Bochum's Institute for Media Studies. Her research investigates media ecologies, decolonial approaches to digital infrastructures, and queer-feminist visual cultures.
Research explores digital colonialism, affective politics in internet culture, media archaeology of extractivism, and queer AI aesthetics. Current projects examine mineral resource extraction infrastructures, decolonial futures in media art, and racialized affect in digital visual culture through artworks addressing environmental racism and colonial legacies.
Leads DFG research network 'Gender, Media and Affect' and organizes international conferences on digital gender politics. Teaching spans media theory, queer visual culture, and critical approaches to digital media technologies.
