Katja Sigel

Katja Sigel is a Scientist at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ Leipzig, Department of Economics, since 2003. Her work focuses on socio-economic sustainability in the water sector, including water and sanitation in developing countries, economic valuation of water resources, institutional frameworks, and participatory decision-making under uncertainty.

• Education: Geoecology and Hydrology, University of Bayreuth
• Prior Employment: Bavarian Water Management Administration (3 years in international cooperation)
• Key Projects: Led participatory sanitation planning in Mongolian peri-urban slums; contributed to EU Water Framework Directive implementation studies
