Katie Jones

Dr. Katie Jones is an Associate Professor and Program Coordinator in the Fashion, Dress and Merchandising department within West Virginia University's School of Design and Community Development. Her scholarship examines fashion as cultural discourse through sustainable fashion, gender/sexuality studies, and fashion criticism frameworks.

Her pedagogical approach challenges dominant fashion narratives by decolonizing curriculum content in fashion history, sustainability, and culture courses. Current research explores media's role in constructing fashion industry valuation, with focus areas including sustainable fashion discourses, gender representations, and critical theory applications.

Recent work analyzes ethics in fashion journalism, circular economies in Appalachian secondhand markets, and astrological influences on contemporary fashion branding. She has published extensively in leading journals including Fashion Theory, Critical Studies in Fashion and Beauty, and Fashion Practice.
