About
Katie Hall is a Distinguished Senior Lecturer in Physics at Wellesley College, where she teaches experimental physics and develops novel optical fibers for communications, sensing, and functional fabrics. She holds a B.A. from Wellesley College and M.S./Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
- B.A., Wellesley College
- M.S., Massachusetts Institute of Technology
- Ph.D., Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Her research focuses on novel optical systems and devices, including nonlinearities in optical fibers, wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) optical networks, and multi-material fibers enabling smart fabrics. She has co-founded two companies to commercialize optical technologies and holds 98 issued patents with over 200 total applications.
Katie has served as Associate Editor of IEEE Photonics Technologies Letters, on the Board of Governors for the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, and on the Board of Directors for the Optical Society of America (OSA). She received the 2013 OSA Fellows recognition and the 2014 NCWIT Symons Innovator Award for her technical and entrepreneurial achievements.
