Katie E. Davis is an evolutionary palaeobiologist affiliated with the University of York as a Research Fellow. Her work integrates macroevolution and macroecology to study biodiversity patterns over deep time and their implications for conservation biology and climate change.
- B.Sc. (Hons) in Geology from University of Edinburgh
- M.Sc. in Palaeobiology from University of Bristol
- Ph.D. in Evolutionary Biology from University of Glasgow
Her research spans multiple taxa (birds, dinosaurs, decapods, insects, myriapods, arachnids) and uses computational methods to analyze phylogeny, fossils, and geological data. She has secured significant grants, including SynTax, BBSRC, and Leverhulme Trust funding, to advance studies on arthropod supertrees and evolutionary traits.
Katie transitioned from geology to evolutionary biology, completing her Ph.D. on the first supertree of birds. After a 3.5-year career break, she returned to academia via post-doctoral work at the University of Bath and later the University of York.
- Received SynTax grant (2011) for arthropod supertree research
- Secured BBSRC grant (2012) for expanded arthropod phylogeny studies
- Awarded Leverhulme Trust grant (2016) for investigating the evolution of song in Orthoptera
