Katia Almeida

Dr. Katia Almeida is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Anthropology at Case Western Reserve University. She has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in cultural anthropology, globalization, socio-economic development, Latin American cultures, and community health.

• M.A. in History from Rio de Janeiro
• Ph.D. in Anthropology from Rio de Janeiro

Her research focuses on:

• Indigenous Shipibo material culture and ethno-aesthetics in the Peruvian Amazon
• Gender, religion, and socio-economic transformations
• Impact of globalization and electronic technologies on higher education
• Comparative interdisciplinary studies on new communication technologies and contemporary youth cultures

She has been recognized for excellence in undergraduate mentoring and teaching through multiple nominations.
