Kathy Swan

Kathy Swan is a Professor of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Kentucky. She specializes in social studies education, technology integration, and teacher education. Dr. Swan is a co-creator of the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework for Social Studies State Standards (2013), a nationally recognized standard. She has received UKY’s Great Teacher Award (2021) and the National Technology Leadership Award in Social Studies Education (four-time recipient).

Her work includes collaborations with institutions like the Smithsonian American History Museum, National Geographic, and the Southern Poverty Law Center to develop inquiry-based educational initiatives. She directs C3 Teachers and Making Inquiry Possible, global networks supporting K-12 educators in implementing inquiry-based practices. Swan’s publications focus on curriculum design, teacher training, and civic education reform, emphasizing relevance and engagement in social studies classrooms.
