
About
Kathy Farrell is the James Jr. and Susan Stuart Endowed Dean and Professor of Finance at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s College of Business. Since joining the faculty in 1993, she has risen through the academic ranks from Assistant Professor to full Professor, and has held key administrative roles including Department Chair and Associate Dean before becoming Dean in 2017.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Finance, University of Georgia (1994)
- BBA, Kent State University (1986)
Research Focus: Dr. Farrell’s scholarly work centers on corporate governance, executive compensation, and executive turnover and succession. Her research has been published in leading finance and governance journals, contributing to the understanding of how board structures, compensation incentives, and leadership transitions affect firm performance and governance outcomes.
Notable Achievements:
- University Distinguished Teaching Award (2001–2002)
- CBA Distinguished Teaching Award (2001–2002, 1995–1996)
- UNL Parents Association Recognition Award (multiple years)
- Elected to the AACSB Board of Directors (2023)
Leadership and Institutional Service: Under her deanship, the College of Business launched new majors in business analytics and business & law, introduced the Seacrest Teaching Fellows and IBL programs, and expanded online graduate offerings. She has also doubled endowed faculty positions and enhanced student support services including free tutoring and scholarships. She serves on the boards of Nelnet, Assurity, Bryan Health, and the Lincoln Community Foundation.
