Kathryn Levin is a Professor at the Department of Physics, James Franck Institute, and the College at the University of Chicago. She specializes in condensed matter theory, with a focus on superconductivity and superfluidity, bridging experimental and theoretical approaches. Her research spans high-temperature cuprates, atomic Fermi gas superfluids, and novel superconductors like proximitized topological superconductors and bi-layer graphene.
Levin earned her PhD from Harvard University and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Rochester and University of California, Irvine. She has trained over 25 PhD students and an equal number of postdoctoral scholars. She co-led the Science and Technology Center on High Temperature Superconductors (STcS) and has served on numerous prize committees and advisory boards.
Her research interests include the BCS-BEC crossover framework, non-equilibrium dynamics of superfluids, and the interplay between magnetism and superconductivity. Recent work explores light-driven superconductivity and cosmological simulations using quantum quenches in atomic BECs.
In grants and advising, Levin has secured extensive funding through STcS and collaborates with experimental groups in AMO physics. She leads interdisciplinary teams investigating topological materials and quantum phase transitions.
