Kathryn Boor has served as Dean of the Graduate School and Vice Provost for Graduate Education at Cornell University since 2020, where she has led initiatives to enhance doctoral student support and faculty mentorship, including establishing the Graduate School Career and Professional Development Office. Prior to her administrative roles, she was a professor in the Department of Food Science at the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, becoming the first woman to earn tenure in the department in 2000.

Dr. Boor’s research focuses on biological factors influencing bacterial transmission in food systems, particularly foodborne pathogens like Listeria monocytogenes. Her work addresses mechanisms of microbial survival, detection, and risk assessment in food production environments, contributing to improved public health strategies.
She actively engages in leadership roles beyond Cornell, serving on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Science Board, the New York State Southern Tier Regional Economic Development Council, and the New York State Council on Hunger and Food Policy.
