Kathryn Bicknell

Dr. Kathryn Bicknell is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Global Value Chains and Trade at Lincoln University, New Zealand. With an office in Commerce Building, Room 205, she maintains an active research and teaching profile focused on agricultural economics and value chain analysis.

Her research expertise spans multiple domains within agricultural economics including production economics, consumer behaviour, farm systems, and natural resource management. During 2009-2015, she served on the Ministerial National Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (NAWAC), where her research concentrated on the economics and distributional impacts of improving farm animal welfare. Subsequent research has expanded to include technical efficiency on NZ dairy farms, on-farm environmental compliance, value chain performance in transitional economies, and food demand patterns across developed and developing countries.

Her recent publication record demonstrates significant scholarly output across agricultural economics, with a strong emphasis on New Zealand dairy systems, value chain resilience, and sustainable agricultural practices. Her work frequently employs system dynamics modeling approaches and addresses practical economic challenges facing agricultural producers and value chain participants.

Dr. Bicknell actively supervises postgraduate students, with numerous completed research-based supervision projects covering topics from animal welfare regulations to food security in developing economies. She also serves as an examiner for courses including Introductory Statistics (COMM 111) and The Economics of Natural Resources and the Environment (ECON 326).
