Dr Kathrin Zickermann is a Senior Lecturer in History at the University of the Highlands and Islands' Centre for History. Her research focuses on early modern maritime history and the Thirty Years War, with particular emphasis on Scottish networks in Europe. Prior to her current role, she held the Alan Pearsall Research Fellowship at the Institute of Historical Research (London).

Her research explores transnational commercial and maritime networks of Scottish merchant families, Swedish diplomat Alexander Erskein's identity, and the impact of the Thirty Years War on Scottish widows. She co-leads the Scottish Widows Project with Prof Steve Murdoch.
Publications include Across the German Sea (2013) and articles in Northern Studies, Journal of the North Atlantic, and others. Her work bridges diplomatic history, migration studies, and economic networks.
