Kathrin Ruf

Dr. Kathrin Ruf serves as Academic Student Advisor and Secretary to the Examination Board for the Bachelor's Program in Mathematics at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). She is affiliated with the TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology and the Department of Mathematics. Her roles include advising students, managing examination processes, and coordinating internships. She has held academic positions at TUM since 2006, transitioning from a scientific assistant to her current advisory role.

Teaching focuses on mathematical analysis courses for engineering and vocational education programs, including Analysis 1-4 for Lehramt an Beruflichen Schulen and higher mathematics for mechanical engineering and chemical engineering students. Her teaching spans over 15 years, with courses designed to bridge theoretical mathematics and practical engineering applications.

Research interests center on mathematical modeling of phase transitions in porous media and cryopreservation techniques. Her work combines numerical methods for PDEs with applications in biomedical engineering and materials science. Key contributions include a phase field model published in Dynamics of PDE and a doctoral dissertation on cryopreservation modeling.

Additional Roles include serving as a core team member of the Focus Group Onboarding and ProLehre multipliers program, coordinating student orientation programs (e.g., Technikum), and acting as an occupational first aider. She has also managed the Professional Internship Program for Mathematics students since 2013.
