About
Kathrin Fisch is a researcher at the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research, Department of Marine Chemistry. Her work focuses on emerging marine contaminants, including pharmaceuticals, UV filters, and pesticides, with expertise in solid-phase extraction (SPE) and HPLC-MS/MS methods. She coordinates the SAARUS project (FS4) and previously worked on the MEGAPOL project (FS3, FS4).
Education:
- M.Sc. in Chemistry, University of Rostock (2012–2014)
- B.Sc. in Chemistry, Free University of Berlin (2008–2012)
- Doctoral thesis: "Occurrence and transport of polar pollutants in coastal ecosystems" (2014–2018)
Research interests span marine pollution, ecotoxicology, and analytical methods for detecting trace pollutants in water and sediment. Her work includes assessing the ecotoxicological hazard potential of particles in marine environments and pharmaceutical transport in Chinese coastal systems.
Recent publication trends highlight her focus on anthropogenic pollution mixtures in urban estuaries, UV filter toxicity to marine organisms, and methodological advances for contaminant monitoring in the Baltic and South China Seas.
Key projects include SAARUS (ship emissions) and MEGAPOL (environmental pollutants), with a research stay at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (2016) supported by a DAAD scholarship. She is part of the Organic Trace Substances working group and has presented at conferences like the Ocean Science Meeting and European Geosciences Union General Assembly.
