Kathleen R. May

Kathleen R. May is a Professor and Chair in Pediatrics at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University. She holds appointments in the Department of Pediatrics (Allergy-Immunology and Rheumatology) and the Department of Medicine (General Internal Medicine). She serves as Division Chief of Allergy-Immunology and Pediatric Rheumatology and Program Director of the MCG Allergy-Immunology Fellowship.

Her education includes a BS in Pre-Medicine from Kent State University (1990) and an MD from Northeast Ohio Medical University (1990). She is board certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology and the Georgia Composite Medical Board.

Dr. May's research centers on allergy, immunology, and pediatric rheumatology, with a focus on asthma management, DiGeorge syndrome, and clinical guidelines. Her recent work explores clinical remission in asthma, over-the-counter inhalers, and immunologic features of genetic disorders. She is actively involved in shaping national standards through ACGME and professional societies.

Her recent publications reflect a strong emphasis on clinical practice, patient safety, and consensus-driven care in allergy and immunology. Themes include asthma treatment accessibility, diagnostic clarity, and management of complex immunologic conditions.

Dr. May serves as Program Director for the MCG Allergy-Immunology Fellowship and is a member of the ACGME RRC for Allergy-Immunology. She has held leadership roles in the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, including past president, and served on the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. She teaches RPED 5000 (Pediatrics Allergy) and RPED 5002 (Pediatrics General).

She is actively involved in the AUMA Patient Safety and Quality Committee and contributes to national accreditation and certification bodies, ensuring high standards in training and patient care.
