Kathleen Polkowski

Kathleen Polkowski serves as a Clinical Pharmacogenomics Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy under the mentorship of Dr. Philip Empey and Dr. James Coons, with active clinical responsibilities in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She is formally affiliated with the Pittsburgh Pharmacogenomics (PittPGx) center.

Her educational credentials include a PharmD and MBA from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) completed in 2024, and she maintains pharmacist licensure in Pennsylvania and South Carolina. During her pharmacy training, clinical rotations at the United States Pharmacopeia catalyzed her focus on pharmacogenomics standardization for precision medicine.

Dr. Polkowski's research centers on pharmacogenomics implementation science, emphasizing the integration and standardization of pharmacogenomic data within electronic health records (EHR) systems. She also investigates large-scale population applications, as evidenced by her 2025 presentation 'Using Pharmacogenomics in Family Medicine with Pediatric Populations' at the PGx ECHO virtual forum.
