Kathleen Jeffs

Kathleen Jeffs serves as Associate Provost for Assessment, Accreditation, and Programs and Professor in the Theatre and Dance Department at Gonzaga University. She oversees institutional accreditation with the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), managing annual reports, mid-cycle reviews, and 7-year reviews. Her portfolio includes collaboration with the Academic Council on assessment, core curriculum development, and program review. At Gonzaga since 2012, she has held leadership roles including Theatre and Dance Department Chair and Director of the University Core since Fall 2021.

Dr. Jeffs earned her BA in English and Spanish from the University of San Francisco, followed by MPhil and DPhil degrees from the University of Oxford, where she also completed a postdoctoral fellowship.

Her research centers on Spanish Golden Age drama performance and translation, with significant contributions to the AHRC-funded Out of the Wings project—a digital resource for theatre practitioners. She examines verse structure, gender dynamics, and cultural adaptation in works by Guillén de Castro and Calderón, bridging historical texts with contemporary staging practices.

Her 15 most recent publications (2007-2022) reveal deep engagement with translation theory, dramaturgical practice, and interdisciplinary arts. Key themes include verse adaptation challenges, gender politics in classical theatre, and collaborative arts education. Recent outputs include the 2022 textbook Interdisciplinary Arts and the 2019 translation of Guillén de Castro’s The Force of Habit.

Dr. Jeffs has mentored students through Senior Projects and internships while directing innovative productions like the Oral History of Homecoming projects. She chairs university initiatives including the Equity in Registration Task Force and leads the Center for Student Academic Success, demonstrating commitment to academic excellence and equity.
