Professor Katherine Runswick-Cole is a Chair in Education at the University of Sheffield's School of Education. Her work focuses on critical disability studies, inclusive education, and the intersection of disability with healthcare and mental health. She holds a BSc(Hons) in Psychology, MA, PGCE, and PhD qualifications.
Her research explores disabled children's childhoods, family caregiving dynamics, and systemic barriers faced by people with learning disabilities. Current projects include NIHR-funded studies on mental health support for carers, healthcare practices for disabled individuals, and employment equity initiatives.
Teaching responsibilities include modules on the BA Education, Culture and Childhood; MA Education programs, and doctoral supervision in disability-related topics. She actively engages with policy advocacy through her role as a trustee at Beyond Words, a charity creating accessible visual stories for marginalized groups.
