Katherine O'Donnell

Professor Katherine O'Donnell is a leading academic in the School of Philosophy at University College Dublin (UCD), specializing in the History of Ideas, Feminist Philosophy, and Gender Theory. Her work intersects with eighteenth-century Irish intellectual history, postcolonial studies, and the cultural politics of emotion. She has held significant roles, including Director of the Women's Studies Centre at UCD (2005–2015) and currently lectures on feminist theory and the Irish Enlightenment. Her advocacy includes co-founding the Irish Lesbian and Gay Archive and leading the Justice for Magdalenes campaign, which secured a state apology and redress for survivors of Magdalene Laundries. She has been recognized with awards such as the UCD President's Gold Medal for Excellence in Teaching (2007) and the Thirst for Justice Annual Award (2013).
