Katherine Nelson is a part-time Lecturer in Drama and Performance and Programme Leader for BA(Hons) Performance at Queen Margaret University's College of Media, Communication and Performing Arts. She holds a BA Hons in Philosophy from Newcastle (1987), a Diploma in Theatre Directing from Drama Studio (1991), and an MSc in Applied Linguistics from Edinburgh (1996). At QMU, she teaches text & performance, research skills, and text-based theatre making.

Notable achievements include Scotsman Fringe Firsts awarded to Nutshell's productions 'Allotment' and 'Thread,' which toured nationwide. She also judges national new writing competitions and contributes to theatre industry networks through Stage Directors UK membership.
