Katherine Modos

Katherine Modos is a Researcher at Cranfield University's Centre for Soil, Agrifood and Biosciences, working in the Plant Science Laboratory. She holds a Food Science degree (2012, Distinction) from London South Bank University and a Food Technology for Industry master's (2019, Distinction) from Cardiff Metropolitan University. Her research focuses on manipulating oxygen-dependent ethylene signaling in fruit to reduce food loss and extend shelf-life, sponsored by Sainsbury's PLC and the FoodBioSystems Doctorate Training Programme.

With 10 years of experience in the food sector, Katherine has worked as a food technician in microbiology laboratories and managed Food Safety and Quality Management Systems for bakery, confectionery, canned, and frozen food products. She specializes in risk assessment, HACCP systems, food authenticity, and compliance with standards like BRCGS, IFS, and FSSC22000. Katherine is a Registered Food Safety Manager and member of the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST), contributing to postharvest research and innovative storage technologies like Controlled Atmosphere for fresh produce.
