Katherine Masters

Katherine Masters is a Teaching Professor and Assistant Department Head for Undergraduate Student Engagement at the Department of Chemistry, Pennsylvania State University. She plays a critical role in delivering and innovating organic chemistry lecture and laboratory courses while overseeing undergraduate student engagement initiatives.

• Education: B.S. (Georgian Court College, 1994), Ph.D. (Penn State University, 2001)

Her research focuses on curriculum development and pedagogical strategies for organic chemistry instruction. Current work explores two novel approaches to teaching organic chemistry lectures, emphasizing student-centered learning and experimental design.

Key publications include the Macroscale and Microscale Organic Experiments textbook series (7th and 6th editions) and laboratory guides for advanced chemistry courses. Her work integrates synthetic chemistry principles with educational theory.
