Katherine Lovell

Dr. Katherine Lovell is Senior Research Fellow in Energy Transitions at SPRU, University of Sussex Business School. Her work investigates innovation and sustainability in infrastructure systems, with particular focus on energy transitions and infrastructure governance. She leads CREDS research on digital twinning in the built environment and its influence on energy demand.

Research Focus: Dr. Lovell examines how high-inertia infrastructure systems evolve, including energy networks, transportation, and water systems. Her current projects explore governance models for multi-system transitions, policy pathways for UK heat decarbonization, and the role of digital twins in sustainable infrastructure development.

Teaching: She developed and teaches modules on 'Infrastructure, Innovation and Sustainability' and 'Innovation Systems,' integrating engineering perspectives with socio-technical transition frameworks.
