Katherine Dunn

Katherine Dunn is a Senior Lecturer and Director of Discipline for Mechanical Engineering at the University of Edinburgh's School of Engineering. Her research integrates nanotechnology, synthetic biology, and bioengineering to develop novel biomolecular systems for applications in photonics, electronics, and healthcare.

Current projects include AI-powered gel electrophoresis analysis, DNA-based biomarker detection platforms, and energy storage in biological systems. Dr. Dunn's honors include being named among the Top 50 Women in Engineering: Engineering Heroes (2021). She leads multiple interdisciplinary research initiatives including the UNANO consortium to advance European bionanotechnology research.
