About
Katherine Cimatu is an Associate Professor and Roenigk Chair in Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, College of Arts and Sciences, Ohio University. She leads research in interfacial chemistry and materials science using advanced spectroscopic techniques.
Research interests focus on molecular-level characterization of surfaces and interfaces, nanomaterials for sensing applications, polymer surface modifications, and development of spectroscopic methods for chemical analysis. Her group specializes in sum frequency generation spectroscopy for interfacial studies.
Recent publications demonstrate innovation in surfactant chemistry, plasmonic biosensors, functional nanomaterials, and polymer characterization. Work combines experimental spectroscopy with computational approaches to understand molecular behavior at interfaces.
Scientific awards include the Roenigk Chair in Chemistry recognizing research excellence.
As Graduate Chair, she oversees doctoral programs and mentors graduate students in physical and analytical chemistry. Research funding supports instrumentation development and collaborative projects.
Affiliated with the Nanoscale Quantum Phenomena Institute, directing laboratory facilities for surface analysis and nanomaterials characterization.
