Katherine Brown

Katherine Brown is a Professor of Communication and Department Chair at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM), affiliated with the College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences (CHABSS). She has taught courses such as Organizational Communication, Communication Research Methods, and Mass Media and Technology since joining CSUSM in 2001.

• Education: Ph.D. in Communication from UC San Diego (1996).

Her research integrates cultural-historical frameworks, theories of collaboration, organizational communication, and technology studies. She focuses on communication technologies supporting collaboration in educational, professional, and research settings, including work with the Laboratory of Comparative Human Cognition (LCHC) on digital archives and interdisciplinary collaboration. In 2013, she became Faculty Director of the CHABSS Career Readiness Initiative, expanding internships, mentoring networks, and career-themed panels for students.
