Katharine Rimes

Katharine Rimes is a Professor of Clinical Psychology and Programme Director of the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at King's College London's Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience. She is also an Honorary Consultant Clinical Psychologist at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. Her research focuses on transdiagnostic processes in psychological disorders, stigma's psychological effects, and LGBTQ+ mental health. She holds a PhD and BA from the University of Oxford.

Research Interests: Dr. Rimes investigates self-criticism, self-esteem, perfectionism, and stigma-related interventions. She employs qualitative and mixed-methods approaches to address systemic barriers faced by sexual and gender minorities.

• Co-Investigator on the STEPS school staff training initiative (MRC-funded, 2020–2022).

Advising & Grants: Supervised 21 doctoral and clinical psychology students, including Neda Sedighimornani, Graham Thew, and Kirsty James. Her work bridges academic research and clinical practice, particularly in improving access to psychological therapies for marginalized groups.

Labs & Teams: Leads research on LGBTQ+ mental health via King's College London's LGBT Mental Health research group and collaborates with NHS Trusts to integrate evidence-based practices into clinical settings.
