Katharine Kelly is an Associate Professor at Carleton University since 1988, cross-appointed between the Institute of Women’s and Gender Studies and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto.
Her research focuses on youth crime, neoliberal policy impacts, and conflict resolution. Major works include co-authored books like Community: A Contemporary Analysis (2023) and Children Who Kill (2021). Current projects explore media constructions of spousal homicide and historical crime narratives.
Teaching and advocacy focus on crime prevention, community engagement, and social justice. She has developed programs for violent inmates and gang members across decades of conflict resolution work.
Labs/Teams: Active in interdisciplinary research groups bridging sociology, criminology, and gender studies.
