Katharina Vones

Katharina Vones is a Senior Tutor in Jewellery and Metal at the Royal College of Art (RCA), part of the School of Arts & Humanities. She holds degrees from the University of St Andrews (2001), Edinburgh College of Art (2006), RCA (2010), and the University of Dundee (2017). Her research focuses on sustainable craft practices integrated with digital materiality, particularly using biomimetic characteristics and reactive/living materials in jewelry design. She explores how digital methodologies impact global South artisanal cultures, fostering hybrid maker communities. Vones has exhibited internationally and blogs at www.smart-jewellery.com to promote open, sustainable craft practices. She is affiliated with the Material Engagements Research Cluster, which studies material-driven research.
