Katharina Altpeter-Jones is an Associate Professor of German Language and Literature in the German Studies Program at Lewis & Clark College, where she joined the faculty in 2003. Her academic focus bridges medieval and early modern German literature with gender studies, and she serves as the Section Head for German Studies.
- Education: PhD in German Studies (2003, Duke University), Magister in English and French Literature (Bayerische Julius-Maximilians-Universität, Würzburg, Germany).
Her research explores representations of femininity and masculinity in German literature from the 12th century to the present, with particular emphasis on gendered narratives in medieval and early modern texts. She has contributed to the Routledge Encyclopedias of the Middle Ages Series and is currently analyzing marital violence in late medieval and early modern German texts.
She teaches first- and third-year German language courses, an introduction to German literature up to the Enlightenment, and a German literature in translation course examining gender dynamics. Dr. Altpeter-Jones maintains office hours in person and via Zoom to support student engagement.
