Kate Seymour

Dr. Kate Seymour is a Lecturer in Sustainability at the Business School of Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). She holds a PhD and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Her work focuses on collaborative sustainability activism, nature regeneration, transformative learning, and critical interrogations of sustainability discourses within political and economic contexts. Her research draws on political theory, ecofeminism, and social reproductive feminism, employing participatory action research and qualitative methods.

Research Interests

Dr. Seymour explores democratic sustainability praxis in communities and organizations, care ethics, ecological reflexivity, and neoliberalism's impact on higher education. She emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, including 'writing differently' to challenge conventional academic formats. Her current projects address urban nature recovery, eco-reflexive learning, and stakeholder engagement in climate action.

Teaching & Leadership

As a Carbon Literacy Champion, Dr. Seymour leads MMU's MSc Sustainability Research Projects and teaches global sustainable development, corporate responsibility, and innovation. She is a core member of the award-winning Staff and Student Sustainability Group and engages local SMEs in co-created research projects.
