Kate Nash is Professor and Dean of the School of Humanities, Creative Industries and Social Sciences at the University of Newcastle. Her research explores documentary media's role in political communication and social discourse.
Research focuses on:
- Documentary's impact on public understanding of complex issues
- Interactive and VR documentary formats
- Ethical dimensions of documentary representation
- Diversity in media production industries
Current projects examine how documentaries shape responses to challenges like climate change and COVID-19. Her work also investigates barriers to diversity in documentary filmmaking and develops evidence-based strategies for industry inclusion. Nash leads research on UK broadcaster training schemes aimed at increasing diversity in television production.
Advising: Currently supervising PhD research on 'Traditional Aboriginal Lore and deep thinking connections with Country'.
