Dr. Kate Gleeson is an Associate Professor at Macquarie University and a member of the Centre for Agency, Values and Ethics (CAVE). She leads the Critical Studies in Gender, Sexuality and Power research stream. Her roles include Director of Respect Now Always and Dean of Students. Previously, she held research fellowships at Macquarie and served on boards for the Australian Political Studies Association and Rape and Domestic Violence Services Australia.
Education: PhD in Politics and International Relations (UNSW, 2005), BA Hons 1st Class in Political Science (UNSW, 1998). She was a Chevening Scholar at Nottingham Trent University.
Research focuses on intersections of gender, sexuality, and religion with politics, law, and history. Key areas include justice for institutional sexual abuse, campus sexual violence prevention, coercive control, and trust in religious/political institutions. She has published widely on abortion politics, LGBTQ+ rights, and transitional justice.
Awarded the Australian Historical Studies Patricia Grimshaw Prize (2022). Editorial board member of Current Issues in Criminal Justice. Active in media commentary on topics like religious freedom, sexual violence, and public policy.
