Karolin Hofmann is a Research Fellow at the Institute of East Asian Studies (IN-EAST) and the Mercator School of Management, Universität Duisburg-Essen. Her work focuses on China’s political and socio-economic dynamics, innovation policies, and environmental governance in East Asia.
- Education:
- B.A. in Economics and Politics of East Asia (focus on Politics and Chinese) at Ruhr-Universität Bochum (2016–2020)
- Study abroad at National Taiwan University (2018/19)
- M.A. in East Asian Studies at Leiden University (2020–2021)
- Current Projects: Since March 2022, she contributes to the UII China project analyzing China’s innovation policy, balancing global integration and national decoupling.
Her research interests include China’s foreign relations, cross-Strait dynamics, and the interplay between state policies and societal actors in environmental and technological domains. She actively engages with interdisciplinary approaches to understanding East Asian governance challenges.
