About
Karl-Dimiter Bissig is the Chen Family Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Duke University, with joint appointments in Biomedical Engineering (Pratt School of Engineering) and Pharmacology & Cancer Biology. His laboratory develops innovative models for liver disease research, including human liver-chimeric mice and patient-derived cancer models.
Research focuses on metabolic liver disorders, viral hepatitis, and liver cancer pathogenesis. His team pioneers CRISPR-based therapeutic approaches like metabolic pathway reprogramming for genetic liver diseases. The lab employs advanced techniques in xenotransplantation, molecular biology, and gene editing to address unmet clinical needs in hepatology.
Affiliated with Duke Cancer Institute and Regeneration Center, Bissig's work bridges clinical pediatrics with engineering solutions for liver regeneration and targeted therapies.
