Karl Aiginger is an Honorary Professor at the Department of Economics of Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration (WU Wien) and Director of the Policy Crossover Center (PCC: Vienna-Europe). He previously served as Director of the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO) from 2005 to 2016. His career includes roles as Deputy Director at WIFO, Visiting Professorships at Stanford University and MIT, and Editor of the Journal of Industry, Competition and Trade.
- Education: University of Vienna (Economics, 1966–1970), Purdue University (1978), Habilitation on Production Theory under Uncertainty (1984).
Research focuses on competitiveness, industrial policy, European economic strategy, climate policy, and analysis of crises (financial, Euro, pandemic, geopolitical). He coordinates the WWWforEurope research project (2012–2016) and actively engages in media through TV/radio interviews addressing EU policy, economic crises, and Austrian economic structure.
