Karl Acham has been a Full Member of the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Austrian Academy of Sciences since 1994 and is Professor of Sociology at the University of Graz, where he is based in the Department of Sociology within the Faculty of Economics, Business Administration and Social Sciences.
His research spans sociology, sociology of culture, social philosophy, philosophy of history, worldview analysis, and the history and theory of the humanities and social sciences. These interests converge in investigations of the epistemological foundations of cultural studies and the historical development of scholarly disciplines in Central Europe.

Professor Acham’s recent publications trace the evolution of sociology and cultural studies within the Habsburg Empire, interrogating the truth claims and epistemological orientations that underpin these disciplines. His editorial and monographic contributions examine how historical contexts shape social theory and worldview analysis.
