Karin Nowikovsky

Karin Nowikovsky is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna. Her research focuses on mitochondrial function, particularly the role of the LETM1 protein in ion homeostasis and its implications in diseases like Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome, neurodegeneration, and metabolic disorders. She collaborates with Prof. Elena E. Pohl and Prof. Cesare Indiveri.

• Current projects include studying the TM-LETM domain's role in K+/NAD+ balance and TMBIM5 as a novel LETM1 interaction partner.
• Her work addresses debates about LETM1's ion transport mechanisms and membrane channel formation.

She mentors students such as Sami Mohammed and Clara Abobocioae.
