Karin M. Dent is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah and serves as Director of the University of Utah Graduate Program in Genetic Counseling (UUGPGC). She is a certified and licensed genetic counselor at the University of Utah, providing clinical services in Medical Genetics, Neurofibromatosis, and Genetic Counseling Clinics at Primary Children’s Hospital.

Research Interests focus on the etiology of congenital hearing loss, ethical challenges in genomic research (informed consent, return of results), and communication strategies for delivering difficult medical news. She co-chairs UUGPGC committees and has contributed to the education of medical/graduate students in Utah.
Leadership Roles include past presidency of the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC), chairing the NSGC Credentialing Examination Committee, and leading mentorship programs within the Association of Genetic Counseling Program Directors.
