Karin Friederic is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Wake Forest University. She holds a BA from Colorado College and MA/PhD from the University of Arizona. Currently on research leave for 2024-2025, her work focuses on Latin America and Sweden.
Her research examines how human rights campaigns reshape gender relations and violence responses. Current projects explore queer youth masculinities in rural Ecuador and chronic illness management in Sweden. She developed courses including Human Rights in Latin America and Anthropology of Global Health.
Friederic co-founded The Minga Foundation, a nonprofit improving global health through community-led development. Her research has been supported by NSF, Wenner-Gren Foundation, and Guggenheim Foundation.

She mentors graduate and undergraduate researchers, including co-authored publications with students on Ecuadorian cultural narratives.
