Kari Gallagher is a Legal Writing Associate Teaching Professor at the University of Notre Dame Law School. She joined full-time in 2023, previously serving as an adjunct since 2000. Her roles include teaching Legal Writing, Judicial Externship Seminar, and contributing to the Deposition Skills program.
Education: B.A. magna cum laude in Sociology and Soviet Studies from the University of Notre Dame (undergraduate), and J.D. magna cum laude from Notre Dame Law School. She served as lead articles editor for the Notre Dame Law Review.
Research and professional interests span legal writing pedagogy, employment law, labor disputes, and administrative law. Her career includes nearly 25 years as a law clerk to Judge Kenneth Ripple of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit, where she drafted over 200 published opinions, and private practice at Faegre Baker Daniels, handling litigation, employment law, and labor matters.
Award affiliations include membership in the St. Joseph County and 7th Circuit Bar Associations, and the Robert A. Grant Inn of Court. She actively coaches mock trial at St. Joseph High School and contributes to community service.
